Jerry Deasy

I am 75 years young and I don't know who the person is that looks back at me in my mirror. I use to teach art and loved it but had to retire early due to health problems in 1994. My immune system started to shut down and I had to radically change my life style.

In the past few months I have started painting again after not doing so since 1998.

I moved back to Chicago in 1998 and took care of my ailing mom after living in Deerfield Illinois since 1973. My mom passed away in March of 2002. She had become my best friend over the past 30 years and I was blessed to have that special relationship.

I met David, my roommate, in July of 2003 and we have lived together ever since. He is 28 years younger than I am so he keeps me young by his presence. In 2008, we moved in to a house on the north side of Chicago owned by a friend of mine who is a professional gardener. It is hard to believe that it is almost 5years since the first of my four major surgeries. I am back to being able to walk normally and the 3 spinal fusions and total hip replacement are working perfectly. Modern medicine is wonderful

I was on Weight Watchers a few years ago and lost 40 pounds.

I am itching to get out in the garden again and see what I can come up with. My garden was the best so far summer before last . It is like a living art project where you can keep asking what if I do this or try this. A large portion of my small garden is plants in containers so I can move things around as they grow.

I currently have 2 Siamese cats and share a very large mixed breed dog with my roommate. Brandy weights 105 pounds and thinks she is a lap dog. She is just the sweetest thing.

Bear. the last of my four cats died a few years ago at the age of 19. I had the mother cat that gave birth to them all so they were there with me for a large portion of my life plus Bear use to be my son’s cat so there were some special memories associated with him as my son passed away in 2008.

I have been a political junkie ever since president Clinton was in office. I recently have tapered off from my following politics because it can become quite depressing to realize what fools are really running this country.

I spend a lot of time on the computer and the internet. It is wonderful to have so much information at your fingertips and I often find myself going to look something up several times a day.
