Before founding Wisdom Oak Winery, Jerry Bias spent nearly 10 years on Wall Street as a trader and investment banker. In addition, he functioned as founding partner and partner of two trading firms. Jerry Bias established Wisdom Oak Winery in 2001.
Today, Mr. Bias focuses on his winery, which made history as the only African-American owned vineyard and winery on the east coast. Nestled on a 153-acre estate in the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside of Charlottesville, he planted the first 300 vines, which have grown to over 2,000. Dedicated to offering quality wines, his product has earned a number of accolades, including the silver medal for his 2012 Rose at the 2013 Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association competition. Moreover, one variety of wine was served at the White House for the 2013 Inauguration Candlelight Celebration.
Jerry Bias earned his BA in foreign affairs and economics from the University of Virginia. He has served as a guest lecturer at his alma mater as well as Georgetown University. An art enthusiast, he collects pieces from African-American artists such as William Tolliver and Henry Tanner. A community-minded individual, he supports the Urban League, the Children’s Aid Society, and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Virginia.
