Jess Parish
Buckinghamshire
I am a dynamic young designer starting within the industry by supporting amateur dramatics, secondary schools and performance academies within the county of Buckinghamshire. Through this, I have gained a solid foundation in which I am pursuing professionally and academically by undertaking a BA Honours degree in performance design in the United Kingdom.
I have worked as a volunteer and paid employee with academies such as Pauline Quirke's academy in which I worked on two musicals, Annie and The Wind in the Willows, within two seasons. Among secondary schools, I've worked on shows such as Oliver, We will Rock You, Back to the 80's and adaptations of other shows.
Educationally, I have worked with pupils across a wide range and introduced a club in a secondary school in which they can learn about the back stage aspect of performance and theatre. Introducting them to this side of the theatre has allowed me to instruct them in construction and design techniques that have been used in live performances. I decided to do this to develop my communication skills with a wider audience as I realised how critical communication is to the success of an extended team.
With a background in acting as a triple threat, my knowledge of the stage and how set design is a medium of connection which supports but never outperforms the actors. My developed working understanding of lighting, sound and film allows me to fully contemplate their effects on my specialism in set design.
