Jessame Cruz

Meet Jessame, or Ms. Jess as she’s known by most 2 to 6-year-olds. She is the School Director at Tender Shepherd Preschool, an outreach ministry of the Lutheran Church of Guam. Not only is she one of the kindest, most caring people you could hope to meet, but even more so to have care for your child.

As if the pandemic hasn't been difficult enough, in 2020 Ms. Jess was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. For the past year, she has faced the toughest fight of her life, while also raising two young children. She's been through countless rounds of chemotherapy, each of which cost her more than $700 in out-of-pocket expenses, has endured a double mastectomy (only partially covered by her insurance), and has now learned that she needs an additional 16 rounds of chemotherapy. What would be a scary situation for anyone has become crippling due to the financial burden.
