My name is Jesse Norton and I am in love with a death defying sport. It would be cool if perhaps I was talking about skydiving, but the dynamic is not that. Dirt bike racing has been, is, and will be my love. Ever since I can remember, I have been around dirt bikes and in fact, I raced my first race when I was 4 years old. Now that I have grown up, the speeds have gotten faster, jumps higher, and stakes more intense. Where the death defying factor comes in is when I had my worst crash ever. I remember it was a race in Washington, Georgia and I had my friends and family there to watch me. I don't remember being nervous or anything of that nature, but that feeling changed as I found myself in first place. A mile after the start, I was riding fast down a small trail and the next thing I know, I was airborne. That is the last thing I remember. A few minutes later, I wake up to bikes running me over because they simply couldn't see me. People all around were telling me to move my body but I couldn't. I have never been more terrified with the feeling of short breath, sharp pain, and loss of feeling. I was lifted on a board and driven back to the ambulance where 30 minutes later, I could finally move my legs. Upon further examination at the hospital, I had a collapsed lung, a broken rib, and an awful concussion. Death defying is an understatement when it comes to racing dirt bikes and I never take that for granted. I am grateful for the fun moments I have while riding and I love how rewarding the sport can be. No matter how bad the injury, I will always have a special place in my heart for this sport and it has helped mold who I am today.
