I am a writer. I've known this since I first sat down at my little Playskool desk, pulled out my Encyclopedia of Animals, and began writing and taking notes about everything from Apes to Zebras. I've never been able to stick to one particular style of writing. Through high school and into college I focused primarily on creative writing and wanted to become an author. My sophomore year of college I switched from a creative writer to a professional writer, just to get a taste for writing in a professional setting. Surprisingly, I fell in love it and set my sights on becoming a technical writer. I have found particular interest in usability writing and editing documents for design and clarity. Being a person who loves to learn new thing and work with my hands, I hope to find myself writing instructions and usability manuals for products. To many people this kind of job sounds horrid, but I love it.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in December of 2012 with a bachelors degree in English and Professional Writing. Now, I am looking for some way to get my foot in the door and land my first job as a college graduate. And I've come to find that it's a lot harder than I had ever anticipated.
So, in the meantime I am working as a waitress and manager at Keys Cafe & Bakery in Hudson. I love my job, and have been with the restaurant since my senior year of high school. I was originally hired as a dishwasher but my people skills needed to be put to better use. Being a waitress is the most rewarding job I have ever had. I get to meet new people every single day, and am constantly working to learn something new from them. Over the years the cafe has developed such a large number of regular guests there is not a day that goes by that I don't see a familiar face, inside or outside of work.
Besides working I am also trying to get into the blogging scene. My progress has been slow, but I'm just getting started. I'm hoping it will make me a better writer in the long-run, as well as help to connect me to others in my field.
Well, looks like that's about it for now!
Thanks for stopping by!
