Jessica Goode
Small Business Owner, Writer, and Social Media Manager in Murwillumbah NSW, Australia
Welcome to my About Me!
My name is Jess and I’m passionate about words. Their beauty, their potential, the way they change minds, introduce new ideas or evocate a tsunami of feelings and moments of action. In an attention economy, the right words matter.
I’ve been telling stories since I was 12 years old. I’ve been telling good stories since my mid 20s. And I've been working on great stories since I hit 30.
While my path has strayed from fiction to marketing over the years, my core ethos remains unchanged… I aspire to write things people care about, and damn it, I love achieving my goals. Creative work should be human centred, not robot aligned or purely algorithm orientated.
I’m not the type of wordsmith who sits in the corner and waits for opportunity to come knocking – sometimes you have to beat down a few doors before a window opens.
Speaking of windows, I’ve worked with big travel brands like Flight Centre, Intrepid and Ski Express; I’ve written content for super serious corporates like Shine Lawyers and traditionally blokey businesses like STIHL power tools and JAX Quickfit. I’ve sold people kettles through Harvey Norman and convinced others to buy couches with Super Amart. I’ve helped people realise their fitness potential with the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers. I’ve created experiential narratives for the State Library of Queensland and helped Australian children find a voice with Kids Helpline. I’ve composed pieces on every topic imaginable, from government handbooks on social media to blogs for hairdressers and tattoo artists.
I'm a business owner.
I'm a student.
I'm a wife.
I'm a mother.
I'm a daughter.
I'm a writer...
...and I want to change the world, or at least make it better, in some way, at some time, with the right piece.
Join me on my journey into ALC708, blogging (from an academic perspective) and being the best Deakin Online student I can be.
