It didn't take me long before I realized my destiny was to teach. Through the years of teaching, I have never stopped learning. This is, I believe, the most important thing a teacher can do. Lead by example. Even though I had graduated with my Master of Education degree in 2006, it has been a rarity to not be engaged in some type of learning.
Once I started teaching in Madison, I found that the urban district enabled me to take high level classes at UW-Madison and Edgewood college without costing me a dime. What could be better than a free education?
My continuing education has included a variety of science topics, gaining deeper understanding of geometry and algebra, and even moving beyond my comfort zone and taking classes about students who are immersed in an English only institution as they are trying to learn the complex language.
Beyond the classroom, I've engaged with other teachers through many different professional development opportunities. I've been a mentor to a first year teacher, and I am a leader in bringing change to the way teachers teach science in their classrooms. With extensive knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards, teaching adults through professional development, and continued use of online, educational platforms, I am looking to extend my reach further.
