Jessica Julia Marques

My name is Jessica Marques I am 26 years old, I recently graduated from Trent University where I received my Bachelor of Education Degree in the Primary Junior Division. Originally from Pickering Ontario, I recently wandered down the horseshoe and have found myself living in the beautiful city of St. Catharines, where I spend a lot of time hiking, working, living and learning.

I’ve always had a passion for exploring nature and have been fortunate enough to grow up very connected to the environment. My parents are house boaters and adventurers with a passion for sea life and fresh air. I spent the summers of my youth travelling from Lake Simcoe to Georgian Bay soaking up the sun, swimming in the lake and feeling grateful for all the beautiful time spent with my family.

Although I am deeply invested in my love of nature and all things organic, I have found another true love in the occupation of teaching and working with children.

One of my interests as a new teacher and the reason I created this page is to understand more about the integration of technology in the classroom. In the past I have often viewed myself as someone who has shied away from technology for the fear that it has caused many to disconnect with the physical world, my vision had been blurred by the fear of media takeover. After a year away at Teacher’s College my attitude completely changed. My passion for teaching has allowed me to realize how integral it is to embrace and understand technology from an educational standpoint. Not only are we now, more than ever, connected and accessible to each other, we are also able to differentiate instruction in ways that we never would have thought possible before. Recent innovations in technology, such as the integration of the internet and smartboard, have completely changed the way students are thinking, learning and communicating in and out of the classroom. Teacher’s must be completely adept to what is happening in the world of technology. It is integral for teachers and students to learn to adapt with educational technology and utilize it in safe and responsible ways.

I am currently taking a course at Brock University titled Integration of Information and Computer Technology in Instruction.
