MURA

Germany, Hamburg

Mura. Though short in title, this German-born soulful artist has already accumulated a long list of accomplishments in a career that is just starting to blossom.

At 12 years old, like any other pre-teen around the globe, Mura would shut the door and sing and dance alone in her room. However, she soon realized singing and dancing was more than just a favorite pastime. At the age of 16, while attending a music academy in Bremen, Germany, Mura became a member of the girl group “Fusion Five,” and within a year joined “Showgirls,” a dance group that allowed her to perform a variety of choreography on a regular basis. However, as she continued her studies, she realized she had more to share with the world than show tune standards.

After a few years of working on who she felt she was as an artist, Mura signed a deal with Goldtime Records. Her first single, Black Mirror, was nominated for a German Rock and Pop Award for Newcomer Artists in the Best Song category. However, even with the success of her first single, months of clashing with the label on the future of her debut album proved to be too much. True to herself and her vision, Mura packed up and set out on her own.

Never one follow trends, Mura also began designing and making her own fashions, a talent she still receives praise for by daily passersby. Pulling from a wide variety of influence from urban style to city chic, designing clothes is just another form of expression for Mura. With prior experience in acting, and a degree in media management, Mura is already the full package. “I’m very hard-working and focused, and I like to be involved in every part of my art, including the business side. I think a lot of artists don’t like to deal with the business side of their job,” Mura explains, naming artist Ryan Lesley as one of her career role models.

In the summer of 2012, Mura met Phinestro, a NYC-based producer and accomplished musician who had scored music campaigns for Adidas and Aeropastale. Ping-ponging between New York, the city of her dreams, and Germany, the place where her dreams began, Mura worked tireless on building her brand. The hard work paid off, resulting in the release of her single “Losing Control”, which she co- wrote with Jose Altidor and Martez Hunt, and its music video, produced by film director Luis Severa. The song, produced by Phinestro, quickly took off and landed coveted TV placements, including a spot on the international hit, “Keeping U
