Jessica Myroon
Student, Designer, and Musician in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Growing up in the Okanagan Valley, I was raised in the outdoors which nurtured infinite inspiration and intrigue from the natural, wild world around me.
After moving to the Greater Vancouver Area, I delved into the educational realm of interior design. Throughout the Bachelor of Interior Design program at British Columbia Institute of Technology, a strong and dedicated work ethic has been nurtured while strong time management skills have been instilled. Graduation with a Bachelor of Interior Design Degree is anticipated for April of 2016. BCIT’s BID program is currently pending CIDA accreditation.
During my third year at BCIT, I participated in a study abroad exchange program through the School of Construction and the Environment at BCIT which brought me to Hildesheim, Germany for five months, studying interior architecture and the German language. I was able to strengthen my intercultural and interdisciplinary skills through collaborative projects involving international interior design, and architecture students. The experience abroad greatly expanded my perception on the built environment and the design processes that can be used to achieve a healthy and engaging environment.
I have been able to merge my two passions of design and wildlife during my final Thesis project in the Bachelor’s program, designing a wildlife rehabilitation centre. My experience as a volunteer and staff member at Wildlife Rescue Association has helped me to grow a stronger appreciation for wildlife each day. Working at WRA has also taught me important skills in relation to time management and prioritizing tasks. Working under high-stress situations in a fast paced environment has ensured that close attention to detail is carried out efficiently, maximizing patient care.
With a passion for design and the natural environment, I hope to apply my values of social and environmental responsibility to the physical environment which humans, and non-human users experience daily.
