Mazzer Coffee Grinder
I don't have a lot of experience with grinder but I'm happywith this one. I'm impressed by how easy the finesse is adjustable and howsturdy the machine is.
I called a coffee retailer who sold both (only for moremoney) and they explained that the Mazzer can only produce an espresso grind, whereas the Rocky will produce a broad range of coffee grinds if you wanted tomake other types of coffee. As I was still tempted to get the Mazzer coffeegrinder, but they also told me that the Rocky will be more than sufficient tomake my espresso, and if it was them, they would buy the Rocky for the money.
Because of the rubber feet that support the unit were quiteuneven, the grinding function is excellent but I almost returned the unit. Theunit wobbled a lot and rocked until we trimmed two of the rubber feet to makeit sit level. After that everything is fine.
I am very impressed with this grinder. I typically use thisgrinder for french press and pour over but it will certainly grind all the waydown to a powdery espresso grind if needed.
The reason I chose the doserless grinder was so that thefresh ground coffee wouldn't just sit in a doser for days or hours, it would gostraight into the portafilter/french press/aeropress/etc. The quality of myespresso shots went up so much after getting a good grinder that it almostseemed to make just as much a difference in the taste as the beans or theespresso machine.
I have really been getting into coffee over the last year, Ieven started to roast my own beans. I have been grinding with a blade grinderuntil I started to use the Rancilio Rocky Doserless Coffee Grinder.
A lot of money for a coffee grinder, but I bought it twoyears ago. It's still going strong. We use it for french press and it can betset very coarse so you have freedom for a wide range and small increments ofgrind.
I usually feel confident after reading reviews about whichitem I'm going to purchase, but I wasn't sure which grinder to get. If you pullout the grind catcher quickly it can be a little messy on the counter, butafter a little practice it doesn't make a lot of mess. The machine isbeautiful. I might try again and see if I get a different machine.
