Based in the Detroit metropolitan area, Jessie E. Kilgore, Jr., PhD, takes a comprehensive approach to educational administration. Dr. Kilgore is the founder, president, and CEO of #T.E.A.C.H. (an alternative route to certification), EdConsult (business and education consulting), and Leadership Matters (online courses).
Before launching the forgoing enterprises in 2015, Dr. Kilgore served in various leadership capacities in Michigan including teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. As such, he oversaw a wide variety of initiatives, including in the areas of strategic planning, research and evaluation, and curriculum and staff development.
Dr. Jessie Kilgore served as Executive Director for the Michigan State University Good Schools Resource Center-Detroit. In this role, he was responsible for budgeting, staff development, and publicizing that organization’s mission of academic improvement for Detroit students. This work was informed by his involvement with the Education Policy Fellowship Program, where he studied leadership styles and policy goals as a Fellow.
While studying for his bachelor in general studies at the University of Michigan, Dr. Kilgore joined the Delta Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He subsequently matriculated at Wayne State University, from which he received his master of arts in teaching and received his PhD in K-12 educational leadership from Walden University. A member of the National Council for the Social Studies and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, among other professional organizations, his hobbies include bowling, golfing, and traveling.
