Jesus Manuel Estevez Costales

Dr. Jesús Manuel Estévez Costales is a Cuban physician, human rights advocate, and pro-democracy activist currently residing in the United States after being forced into exile as a result of his public opposition to the Cuban communist regime.

A graduate of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo, Dr. Estévez practiced medicine in Cuba and Venezuela, where he witnessed firsthand the political manipulation of healthcare systems and the systematic use of medical professionals as instruments of state control. These experiences strengthened his commitment to defending human dignity, individual liberties, and the fundamental rights of the Cuban people.

Today, Dr. Estévez serves as Executive Director of the Anti-Communist Movement and Defenders of Freedom, Inc. (MADL), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting democracy, defending human rights, supporting political prisoners and their families, documenting abuses committed by authoritarian regimes, and providing a platform for victims of political persecution.

Under his leadership, the organization has expanded its advocacy efforts through public awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, international outreach, and the documentation of human rights violations affecting Cuban citizens both on the island and abroad. His work has focused on amplifying the voices of political prisoners, supporting exiled activists, exposing transnational repression, and encouraging civic engagement among Cubans committed to democratic change.

As a physician and activist, Dr. Estévez has publicly denounced political persecution, arbitrary detentions, violations of freedom of expression, restrictions on civil liberties, and the exploitation of Cuban medical professionals through state-controlled programs. He has participated in advocacy campaigns, public forums, media interviews, and awareness initiatives designed to highlight the realities faced by those who oppose authoritarian rule in Cuba.

In addition to his leadership role within MADL, Dr. Estévez works closely with activists, former political prisoners, independent journalists, human rights defenders, and members of the Cuban exile community to strengthen networks of support for individuals facing repression. His efforts have contributed to the collection, preservation, and dissemination of testimonies and evidence concerning human rights abuses and political persecution.

Dr. Estévez firmly believes that freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human dignity are essential foundations for Cuba's future. Through his medical profession, public advocacy, and organizational leadership, he remains committed to advancing these principles and supporting those who continue to struggle for a free and democratic Cuba.

His mission is clear: to ensure that the voices of the oppressed are heard, that victims of repression are not forgotten, and that future generations of Cubans may live in a society founded upon liberty, justice, and respect for fundamental human rights.
