Jesus Manuel Estevez Costales
Doctor in Euless, Texas
Dr. Jesús Manuel Estévez Costales is a Cuban physician, human rights advocate, and pro-democracy leader who was forced into exile after openly opposing the Cuban communist regime. His work is driven by an unwavering commitment to freedom, democracy, and the defense of fundamental human rights.
A graduate of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo, Dr. Estévez practiced medicine in both Cuba and Venezuela. Throughout his medical career, he witnessed the political manipulation of healthcare systems, the exploitation of Cuban medical professionals through state-controlled programs, and the systematic denial of basic civil liberties. These experiences reinforced his conviction that defending human dignity extends far beyond the practice of medicine.
He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Anti-Communist Movement and Defenders of Freedom (MADL), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting democratic values, defending human rights, supporting political prisoners and their families, documenting abuses committed by authoritarian regimes, and providing a voice for victims of political persecution.
Under his leadership, MADL has expanded its advocacy through international awareness campaigns, civic education initiatives, public policy engagement, media outreach, and strategic partnerships with activists, journalists, former political prisoners, and human rights defenders. The organization has worked to document human rights violations, expose transnational repression, strengthen support networks for Cuban exiles, and encourage civic participation among those committed to a democratic future for Cuba.
As both a physician and human rights advocate, Dr. Estévez has consistently spoken out against political persecution, arbitrary detention, censorship, violations of freedom of expression, religious oppression, and the exploitation of Cuban medical personnel by the regime. He has participated in public forums, international advocacy efforts, media interviews, educational initiatives, and awareness campaigns focused on exposing the realities faced by Cubans living under authoritarian rule.
His leadership is grounded in the principles of integrity, service, and peaceful democratic change. He firmly believes that respect for human dignity, the rule of law, individual liberty, and accountable institutions are the indispensable foundations of a free society.
Through his professional career, public advocacy, and organizational leadership, Dr. Estévez continues to work alongside members of the Cuban exile community, independent civil society, and international partners to amplify the voices of the oppressed, preserve the truth about human rights abuses, and advance the cause of a free, democratic, and prosperous Cuba.
