Jewel Sharp

Austin, Texas, United States

I am currently a multimedia journalism major at the University of Texas at Austin, an intern at the show "Morning X with Jason and Deb" at Emmis Austin Radio, and Web Producer/Social Media Correspondent at the entertainment news show "Sneak Peek", at Texas Student Television (TSTV), the only FCC-licensed student-run television station in the country.

As Web Producer/Social Media Correspondent of Sneak Peek, it is my responsibility to distribute and promote show content throughout various social media platforms such as: YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Blip, etc. I have gained valuable experience in the creative elements it takes to run a live and weekly entertainment show. In addition, I also contribute to the show by discussing the latest in movies, celebrities, music, and fashion, hosting the show, operating the camera, constructing video packages, and producing live segments.

I am experienced in red carpet events, interviewing actors, directors, producers, and musicians for various film premieres and interactive panels at film/music/interactive festival South By Southwest, Fantastic Fest, Austin Film Festival, Austin Comic Con, etc. Interviews with: Matthew McConaughey, Winona Ryder, Henry Winkler, Stevie Nicks, Tim Burton, Michelle Branch, Lou Ferrigno, Will Forte, and much more.

Apart from the television aspect of journalism, I am also interested in other facets; such as but not limited to radio and public relations.

Kismet seems the perfect word to convey how the journalist in my blood was awakened. I received a journal as a gift from my mother on my 14th birthday, where I was to write down all my adventures and observations of the colorful world around me. I became fascinated with journalism, the entertainment side in particular and decided to pursue a career as a celebrity journalist.

In Fall 2015, I will be heading to California to attend UT's Semester in Los Angeles Program, where I will live, study, and intern in entertainment news.

I hope to work for a broadcast entertainment news show, be a publicist where I will be constructing blueprints for red carpets and organizing events, and also a freelance writer for various entertainment news outlets. I hope to apply my multimedia experience and transform my dream into reality.
