Jewel McClinton

Jewel McClinton, a well-established and successful educator and leader, is known for her strong focus on quality education practices.

Jewel McClinton began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in 1996, focusing on facilitating the learning of students in kindergarten, third, and sixth grade. During her tenure, Jewel McClinton garnered invaluable skills as an educator, designing and implementing instructional plans and working in partnership with other teachers to advance student performance.

In 2004, Jewel McClinton assumed the role of Reading Specialist and Lead Literacy Teacher at Poe Classical School. For one year, McClinton focused her efforts on working closely with educators toward improving instruction in reading and literacy, raising ISAT test scores for third through sixth grade students, and overall professional development on a daily basis. Following her tenure at Poe Classical School, Jewel McClinton transferred her skills to Herzl Elementary School, where she served as Principal Intern from 2005 to 2006. At Herzl Elementary, Jewel McClinton provided instructional leadership, operations management, and budget support. Jewel McClinton also supervised 60 staff members and 750 students.

In July 2006, Jewel McClinton became Principal of Chicago’s Lawrence School of Math and Science. In this position, Jewel McClinton demonstrates her outstanding capabilities as an educator and leader by implementing policies that contribute to a safe and successful learning environment. Jewel McClinton oversees the direction, growth, and educational effectiveness of the school, accommodating 500 students and 45 staff members. Through the supervision of curriculum, instruction, and assessment activities, McClinton ensures the push for positive change with creative and effective programs that generate an increase in academic achievement.

Committed to personal growth and advancement in her field, Jewel McClinton is an active member of the Illinois Principals Association, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the ASCD (previously the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), as well as the International Reading Association.

After completing her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Jewel McClinton earned her Master of Education in 1998. Jewel McClinton recently completed her Doctor of Education at Roosevel
