In 2008, I moved here to Texas with my cat Riley. I had no job, very little savings and only knew my best friend, who still lived about 30 minutes away. I had left my parents and life back in Georgia to pursue something bigger for myself. I just didn't know what that was.
I had graduated from The Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007 with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design. Walking off the stage at graduation, I knew I did not want to be an interior designer. But the background served me well, and two weeks after moving to Texas I began working part-time for Pier 1 Imports.
It wasn't long before I was bit by the writing bug, and decided to apply to the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism. I was accepted and began my graduate career in 2010. I am majoring in strategic communication, and I am expected to graduate with my Masters of Journalism August 2012.
Around the same time I applied for graduate school, I was promoted to the Pier 1 corporate office. I maintained a part-time position until March of last year, when the opportunity arose to become a full-time employee. I've worked in the same department the last two years and have continued to add to my list of responsibilities. I sincerely enjoy what I do and who I work with.
In my spare time, I enjoy watching or playing sports, singing karaoke, and tending to my new house.
