Josh Freedom du Lac

Washington, DC

I am an enterprise reporter for The Washington Post, where I write about gambling, history, people, places and things -- sometimes within the same story.

I am a serial abuser of double-dashes and colons.

Previously, I served as the paper’s pop music critic. I was dead wrong about Lady Gaga, but absolutely right about Kevin Jonas and James Blunt. The great Dolly Parton once sang to me in her dressing room at Dollywood, but she wouldn't let me wear one of her wigs. (I asked.)

I joined The Post in 2005 after a dozen years at The Sacramento Bee, where I wrote about music, media, culture, sports and Arnold Schwarzenegger's actual height.

I have lost more awards than I have won.

Freedom is my given middle name.

I can be reached at [email protected] or (202) 334-5268.
