James F. Hamilton
My work engages problems of democratic communications in ways that generate important new questions and issues. A central goal of this project is, first, to develop a historicizing critique not only of specific practices of democratic communications but also of their conceptualizations and forms. Second, but equally central, the project seeks to recontextualize, retheorize, and thus reconstitute the possibilities of democratic communications in the current era of digital media, globalization, and perpetual political, economic, and ecological crises. Among works published are Democratic Communications; Formations, Projects, Possibilities (Lexington Books, 2008; paperback 2009) and, with Chris Atton, Alternative Journalism (Sage, 2009), plus articles in a variety of scholarly and general publications and sites.
