I was born and raised in the extreme northwest corner of Indiana, just south of Chicago, but college, grad school, work, and love have taken me all over North America. I immigrated to Canada in 1997 to join my partner in Toronto and have been a Canadian citizen since 2001.

I've worked at the University of Calgary since 2000, where I'm currently Associate Professor of Sociology and Undergraduate Studies Director. I teach our introductory course, as well as courses in criminology, social psychology and research methods at the graduate and undergraduate levels. I'm trained as an ethnomethodologist, which entails inquiring about the social and interactional organization of mundane activities, and have most recently brought this perspective to bear on the social world of the independent coffeehouse.

About.me is forcing me to add a "spotlight" so I chose "read my website" since nothing else came came close... and I chose my Yelp profile, because why not. Tonnes of good stuff there.
