Dr. Murray received his AB from the University of Michigan, his Doctorate (Clinical Psychology) from Case Western Reserve University, completed his Residency at Northwestern University Medical School, completed an Advanced Fellowship at Northwestern University, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University School of Medicine. He is Board Certified as a Diplomate (Clinical Psychology) with the American Board of Professional Psychology and as a Fellow with the Academy of Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Murray has practiced for more than thirty years in the areas of psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and forensic psychology. In the practice of forensic psychology, Dr. Murray has been involved in many hundreds of cases with expert witness consultation for both civil and criminal litigation; and with appearances in local, state, federal and federal appellate courts, as well as various security and administrative settings. Notable case involvements include the Cristian/Newsome case, the Central High School shooting, and the Campbell County High School shootings. A large part of his practice has involved work with public defenders in the service of providing legal rights to the disadvantaged. His clinical practice has involved extensive work with children and adolescents, as well as adults, in providing a wide range of treatment, psychological assessment, and consultation services.
Dr. Murray has authored a dozen professional publications in the areas of psychological treatment and assessment; including serving as an author and co-editor for the book, "Contemporary Approaches to the Rorschach". His media involvements include seventeen appearances on the television series “Snapped” (Jupiter Entertainment, Oxygen Network) and an appearance on “Something Wicked…” (Jupiter Entertainment, The Biography Channel). He has served in a number of professional service roles, including as a founding member and president of the Appalachian Psychoanalytic Society, Chairman of the Tennessee Psychological Association Committee on Continuing Education, and as a Board Member of the Tennessee Board of Psychological Examiners (the Tennessee licensing board).
