I am a retired Phoenix Police Commander and retired September 9th, 2011 before making my next career transition to the Glendale Community College as a full time residential professor.
A chronological list of my assignments for the last ten years or so of my career with the Phoenix Police Department included:
1) Desert Horizon & Black Mountain Precinct Commander: December 2010 through September 2011 (Retirement)
2) Professional Standard Bureau Commander: September 2009 through December 2010
3) Family Investigations Bureau Commander: July 2007 through September 2009
4) Central City Precinct Commander: May 2005 through July 2007
5) Tactical Support Bureau Commander: January 2004 – May 2005
From my assignment within Family Investigations Bureau forward, (130 employees) my bureau investigated cases involving; crimes against children, sexual assault, domestic violence, missing persons, sex offender notification and internet crimes against children. From Sept 2009 to December 2010, I was assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau from which we investigated all alleged police misconduct, police shootings and audits/inspections. My last assignment was overseeing the Desert Horizon and Black Mountain Precincts from which I commanded approximately 480 sworn first responding police officers.
I spent fourteen years as a Lieutenant and my last assignment as a Lieutenant, was at the Training Academy supervising the Advanced Training Unit from which I was responsible for all in-service related training for 3800 sworn and civilian employees (2001- 2004).
Prior to my assignment at the Training Bureau I was assigned as an Area Manager within the Central City Precinct and am nationally known as a proactive problem-solver, having had at least two major action plans completed each of the five years while at the precinct (1996 – 2001).
Respectfully sharing; I have received numerous recognition awards related to community policing efforts, such as: Herman Goldstein Problem Oriented Policing Award, National Award (1997), Phoenix Police Department Community Based Policing Award (1998), Phoenix Police Department Community Based Policing Award (2000), Arizona Criminal Justice Commission State Award Recognition; Prostitution Action Plan (2001), International Chiefs of Police National Award Nomination; Outstanding Community Policing Initiative (2001).
