I'm a software developer who's been doing this for a good while now. I got my first computer when I was 11 from the company my mom worked for. I really enjoyed it and started playing with BASIC pretty soon after that. After a falling out with some friends in high school, I ran into some people that were very into computers and I started getting even more into it. I was on the BBS's back in the early 90's and actually met my wife on one of them. I was never much into school and spent my last year of high school not in the school and my grades reflected that. Given those grades, university was not in my future so I went to our local community college instead and got a Mini\Micro Computer Specialist diploma. While I haven't done much with the diploma itself, I did get a job because Howard Harowitz -- one of my teachers -- took an interest in me. He hired me right after I got out of school and I started working for Brooklyn North Software Works. To this day that is still one of my favorite jobs. Since Brooklyn North, I've worked at a few really good places and learned a lot. I'm currently at a company called Martec which is owned by Lloyd's Register (the classification society, not the bank or insurance company) out of London. It's an excellent place with a lot of very bright people. I've got a wonderful wife and the most amazing son anyone could ask for.
