Jennifer Huizen

Freelance writer, Editor, and Writer in Bow, NH

My name is Jennifer Huizen and I'm a freelance science journalist. Before completing an MS in Journalism at Columbia University I simultaneously completed a BS in Biology and a BA in English at Acadia University. Previous to attending Columbia I also completed one year of veterinary school (DVM) and spent 100 days in rural Kenya running a pilot program for Veterinarians Without Borders.

Anything science interests me but I'm most passionate about environmentally related matters. I've written for a variety of digital publications covering a wide range of topics, including health and natural health, aquaculture, cannabis legalization, species conservation, social justice, and sustainable agriculture. Occasionally I also write about freaky looking deep-sea critters, travel topics, and the small part of the world I hail from. I'm also currently working on a longterm investigative reporting project assessing the complex relationship between so-called free trade and the environment.
