Jia Xu

Visiting Professor in New Brunswick, New Jersey

I am Jia Xu, a computer scientist working in artificial intelligence and natural language processing. I am currently a Visiting Professor at Rutgers University in the United States. My research focuses on large language models, dialogue systems, and methods to make deep learning models smaller and more efficient. I grew up in China and moved to Germany at the age of 19. I completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at TU Berlin and earned my Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen University under Hermann Ney. During my training, I also conducted research visits at Microsoft Research and IBM Watson. I have held academic positions at Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Stevens Institute of Technology. I have published around 50 research papers and participated in international AI competitions, including the Amazon Alexa Prize. Outside research, I value balance and long-term learning.
