James Smith has over 17 years of sales and online marketing experience, working for industry leaders and building high performance organizations designed to help businesses, of all sizes, transition and be successful in the digital age.

From September 2007 to June 2012, James worked for ReachLocal (Nasdaq: RLOC) as Area Director for the Southwest United States. Prior to that, James spent over 9+ years with Citysearch, an operating business of IAC (Nasdaq: IACI), where he began as a sales person in Austin, Texas and ended his career as the Director of Sales, Southern United States.

Before joining Bigcommerce as Director, Acquisition Sales, James was an independent consultant, most notably working with Thumb-Friendly, a mobile platform and marketing organization in Q3/Q4 2012, where he oversaw the development of sales, product, distribution, and training. In December 2012, Thumb Friendly was recognized as an interactive local media (ILM) “Future Star” by BIA/Kelsey, after raising Series A Funding to support the company's continued growth. Thumb Friendly was sold in Q1 2014 for an undisclosed amount.

Currently, James works for Hearst Corporation as Chief Digital Revenue Officer for The San Antonio Express-News and is charged with developing the digital strategy for the market as the company celebrates it's 150th Anniversary in 2015.

Based in Austin & San Antonio, James enjoys spending free time with his wife and five children. In July of 2012, he published his first book, "The Leadership Code," available for free download on LinkedIn/iTunes and for purchase on Lulu.
