Jim Platts

I am a creative, analytical and forward-thinking engineer and strategic planner with over 40 years experience in the electric power industry in the USA and Brazil, encompassing planning, research, environment and technical communications.

My planning experience includes evaluations of alternative system expansions, advanced technologies and facility siting. The research experience includes evaluation of research programs, and technical information coordination. The environmental experience encompasses strategies to implement federal regulations, emission credit brokering, evaluation of renewable resource technologies, climate change, sustainability reports, analysis of generating plants emissions, and evaluating impacts of regulatory developments.

I created planning and environmental groups, organized and conducted environmental seminars, written numerous technical reports and made presentations at technical conferences in the U.S., Canada and Brazil. I have spoken to public groups on alternative energy technologies.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer in São Paulo, Brazil, I planned and built rural electric lines. I was president of the Connecticut chapter of the sister-state program Partners of the Americas with Paraiba, Brazil, which sponsored professional exchanges between the two sister states. Two major projects were a Thanksgiving Friendship Flight of 200 Brazilians to CT and a university basketball team visit to Paraiba.

My entrepreneurial experience outside of my work organizations includes administering and marketing a language and cultural events business, and working on Brazilian business exchanges.
