Jim Sammons
Owner La Jolla Kayak Fishing Adventures and TV show host of The Kayak Fishing Show with Jim Sammons.
A San Diego native, Jim has spent most of his life on or near the water. Whether, during his youth, paddling his inflatable raft on San Diego bay, pin heading for free trips on the local sport boats or paddling his long board out to the kelp beds. Jim always found a way to get on the water in a manner that would not break his very small bank account. Receiving his first kayak as a gift, he has never looked back; starting La Jolla Kayak Fishing guide service in 1995, he has been on the leading edge of this fast growing sport.
Jim holds the distinction of landing the first, and only California caught Marlin from a kayak. He has landed Thresher sharks up to two hundred pounds and a personal best Yellowtail of forty five pounds all while fishing the La Jolla coast from his Ocean Kayak. Some of Jim's proudest accomplishments are guiding more clients to Billfish from a kayak than any other kayak fishing guide in the world, starting the La Jolla Kayak Fishing Billfish club, and setting kayak fishing records with a 65 pound bull Dorado and a 125 pound Yellowfin Tuna.
Jim has worked closely with Ocean Kayak™, from conception to finished product, to make the finest line of fishing kayaks on the market, starting with the Prowler 15 and the new Prowler Trident series of boats.
Jim is an IGFA certified, and California Department of Fish and game licensed guide and runs La Jolla Kayak Fishing instructional trips locally as well as guiding trips to northern and southern Baja. A contributing writer with several fishing publications Jim loves the opportunity to give tips and relay stories of successful kayak fishing adventures. In 2007 Jim began working on a video project titled Kayak Fishing; Game On which was followed by Game On 2. These kayak fishing adventure films were so well received that the project morphed into a now airing TV show title The Kayak Fishing Show with Jim Sammons, which can be seen each week on WFN, the World Fishing Network. See Jim travel the world targeting some of the baddest fish around from his kayak.
Kayak fishing is Jim's passion; addiction or some would a say sickness with no cure. He has managed to turn that passion into a career through guiding and sharing his love of the sport with others.
