Jim Yurkanin

I am a fire protection and life safety professional with over ten years experience in the layout, design, testing, and maintenance of automatic fire alarm, mass notification, and special hazard suppression systems. I am gifted with exceptional technical, mechanical, electrical, and computer abilities with an acute attention to detail. Fire and life safety codes are my second language; I have substantial knowledge of NFPA and ICC codes, as well as the Chicago Building Code. I also hold a valid NICET level IV certification in fire alarm systems. I currently hold the title of Special Systems Manager for a well established fire protection equipment distributor. I do a little bit of everything there; manage the design department, project manage, perform acceptance testing with the AHJ, meet with customers, attend job meetings, solve CAD related problems, and I also still design as well.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Eastern Kentucky University. After I complete my bachelors degree, my goal is to pursue a Masters in Fire Protection Engineering, and ultimately become a licensed professional fire protection engineer.
