The long path of history that now seems so familiar to us was once a future as yet unrealized. As life evolved on our singularly fertile planet at the edge of an unremarkable spiral galaxy, history itself was also forming a foundation of both progress and gradual enhancement of our natural cognitive endowment. The well-worn path of human evolution has provided modern humans with a marvelously complex and adaptive hominid brain, and given us access to a richly-textured sense of subjective awareness, unrivaled by any other known species. With the hundreds of thousands of years of a relatively stable environment that life on earth provided for humans to reach a sufficient degree of consciousness, we have been able to unravel some of the most daunting mysteries of the universe, and to begin to piece together the extraordinary progression of life here on Earth.

I've been studying and writing about the human subjective experience of consciousness for more than twenty years and have accumulated a fair amount of thoughts and ideas about it. My blog on Wordpress.com is called, "John's Consciousness," but it is more clearly about the universal subjective experience of human consciousness, and addresses how I have come to understand it as a spiritual, as well as temporal or natural phenomenon. Through a collection of a variety of personal reflections and a number of detailed reports of my own experiences, and years of research and contemplation of our cognitive capacities and astonishing neuroscientific discoveries, the human spirit now seems to me to be an essential component of human consciousness, and suggests that consciousness may be a fundamental feature of the universe, infusing everything that exists within it.
