Jasmine Lakhani
Writer, Student, and Volunteer in Harrow, United Kingdom
My name is Jasmine Lakhani. I am 22 years old.
I was born in the London, UK but my family roots were in Nakuru, Kenya at around 3 months my mum, older sister and I moved back home to Nakuru. At the age of 11 my parents separated (it was a messy and confusing process – to say the least). My mum, sister and I moved back to London where we went to school and where my mum worked extremely hard being both parents and providing for us. My father did not help and our relationship is complicated and honestly non-existent, but I have grown to believe that this was a blessing in disguise even though it left me with many scars. I could have never asked for anyone better than my mum, in fact I am sure that no one better than her exists and my sister and I are extremely blessed.
I am now studying at City University London to be a journalist with the hopes of becoming a humanitarian journalist. Currently I am in the study abroad program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (USA) where I have had the chance to dabble in screenwriting and production, which I have found a passion for and hope to continue with the ambition to writing a film that will one day be in the cinema watched by millions all over the world.
