Janet MacCallum
Consultant in Brisbane City, Australia
I’m a British entrepreneur living the dream in Brisbane, Australia. I specialise in writing, editing and design and although I like maintaining a balance of corporate and creative work, my main passion since childhood has always been art…
How did I end up becoming a successful creative entrepreneur?
I left the UK in 2004 to embark on a year round the world trip, which included Australia in my itinerary of many countries to explore. Silly me thought Australia would be like the TV show Neighbours – a sunnier version of the UK with like-minded folk. However, Australia and its people took me by surprise. I was welcomed with open arms and Australia stole a piece of my heart along the way.
What was meant to be a couple of months backpacking around Australia, before continuing on my travels, has ended up with me calling Australia home for more than a decade.
There have been many adventures and some trials and tribulations along the way. I’ve worked my ass off, laughed and cried, had more Australian visa dramas than you can shake a stick at, but most importantly I’ve achieved my long-held entrepreneurial dream and finally have Australian citizenship!
Never one to sit still, I have numerous businesses on the go (time permitting), which keep me busy and continually developing my skills.
Janmac Tenders: Winning tender solutions for clients across sectors (predominantly engineering). I strategise, manage, write and create graphics for winning tenders.
Janet MacCallum Art: Various styles of art from photorealism portraits (humans and pets), pop art paintings of famous icons, to abstract textile art.
Chalk Art Chick: Bespoke chalk art for weddings and events, cafes, pubs and restaurants. I did chalk art for Australia's My Kitchen Rules (aired on TV January 2015).
Janmac Creative: Helping clients stand out from the crowd with corporate and creative branding solutions. (Yet to be launched - watch this space!).
