J. Michael Flournoy
Former Coconino County Superior Court Judge J. Michael Flournoy currently works part time on a select number of civil and criminal cases specializing in mediation and arbitration as an Attorney in private practice. He was appointed and elected to the position of Superior Court Judge in 1992 and was reelected two additional times. Before being elected as Superior Court Judge, he worked as a sole practitioner at J. Michael Flournoy, P.C. and was twice elected County Attorney of Coconino County. He was the first Republican elected to that position in more than 20 years. During his time as County Attorney, he also worked as a partner at Preston, Flournoy & Flick, first known as Preston and Flournoy.
J. Michael Flournoy has devoted himself to charity work in the community, and he supports the American Heart Association, United Way, Easter Seals, the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross. In addition to giving to a number of charity organizations, he has also served as Fund Drive Chairman in most of these organizations in a wide range of fundraising activities. A lifetime resident of northern Arizona, he is a proponent of many of these local social groups and organizations. J. Michael Flournoy belongs to the University of Arizona Alumni Association and was an 8 year board member of the UA Alumni Association. He has supported the Flagstaff Little League as a coach, board member, and President. In addition to his social and charitable associations, he belongs to several professional organizations, including the State Bar of Arizona, Arizona Judges Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and is one of the founders of the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys' Advisory Council (APAAC) formerly the Arizona County Attorneys Association.
J. Michael Flournoy began his undergraduate career at Arizona State College, now known as Northern Arizona University, where he was elected Freshman Class President, before transferring to the University of Arizona. At the University of Arizona, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BS in BA). After completing his undergraduate work, J. Michael Flournoy enrolled in the University of Arizona College of Law, where he earned his Doctor of Laws (JD) in 1962. He was President of his legal fraternity, Phi Delta Phi. He was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 1962, 49 years ago.
