Justar Misdemeanor

“I do art innit” is a phrase I adopted in college and began printing on t-shirts after people questioning “what I do?”
Essentially it defines my creative practice as I do not like to be restricted to one field but rather feel free to incorporate ideas and play with unorthodox materials.
From the moment I picked up my first pack of jumbo crayons and pots of playdoh I fell in love with creating art and chose to pursue creativity in any and every form.
Art is a vital part of my life allowing me to creatively express my feelings, thoughts and concerns, and raise awareness on controversial and traumatic, social, political and environmental issues.
I am influenced by an ever growing range of artists and photographers whose styles vary but all provoke thought and push boundaries. From; Nan Goldin, Peter Kennard, Ron Mueck, James Cauty and Cindy Sherman to photojournalists; such as Larry Burrows, Nick Ut, Eddie Adams and W.Eugene Smith who capture brutal photographs of crucial real life catastrophes.
Employing a child’s perspective has been a dominant theme throughout my work, deconstructing nursery rhymes and lullabies, recreating and adapting familiar found imagery to engage the viewer and provoke thought on varying subject matters.
I like to challenge myself with ambitious large scale projects, constantly exploring and experimenting with a variety of processes, techniques and materials to strengthen my abilities and enhance the final outcomes.
Currently concentrating on large scale drawings, recreating war scenes that confront the viewer with the harrowing reality of what many face on a daily basis.
