Johan is a qualified lawyer and has been a tax practitioner for more than 20 years, now registered as a Master Tax Practitioner. Johan practices independently as an international tax lawyer, a consultant to Mketsu & Associates in Pretoria as well as director of Oakley Bouwers Arron.

Johan’s network

His network across Africa will ensure that the service delivery in South Africa is replicated throughout the continent. He has a close alliance arrangement with Nexus Africa, headed up by the previous head of tax for east Africa of KPMG. It gives him coverage of a region, ranked only second to west Africa in GDP growth importance, the size of North America, and a few other countries, but growing at roughly 4 times the rate in GDP terms. It will give him coverage to the star performer of the region, Kenya, as well as Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, and as far as Ethiopia. He also has associations inNamibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria, DRC, most of the Francophone countries and Ghana.

Moreover, Johan is part of a niche association of firms with national & international tax representation, tax controversy & tax litigation experience and expertise. Education

Johan holds a BA (law) degree from the university of Stellenbosch, a LLB, H Dip Tax, and a H Dip International Tax from the University of Johannesburg (formerly Rand Afrikaans University).

Publications and public appearances

Johan has attended and addressed many seminars and conferences on tax in South Africa, the USA, Europe (France, Switzerland and the Netherlands) and the UK. He is regularly quoted in the local media and regularly participates as a specialist on several television and national radio business programmes. Johan is regularly an external examiner for the Master’s courses in tax at the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand.
