Mother to five and grandmother to seven, Joan Scott Curtis began teaching in the Dallas Public School system in 1995. After teaching for several years, she went back to school for advanced learning and received her Ph.D. in reading education in 2008. Passionate about public education, she currently works with secondary language arts teachers in Denton Independent School District in Texas. Knowing her life has been enriched by her family and their stories, she has aspired to be a writer and record these stories for her grandchildren. Dr. Curtis has also recently published her memoir, Just Keep Breathing.
