Joanna Piros is a senior consultant with COUNTERPOINT Communications in Vancouver, where the bulk of her book of business involves communications and media relations training, consulting and implementing.

She teaches media, public speaking and communications skills in a variety of courses at UBC, and, in her private practice, has trained literally thousands of people in how to be better communicators, and how to protect themselves in the media spotlight and on the speaker podium.

Her client list includes senior executives, cabinet ministers, mayors, celebrities, NHL draft picks, actors, writers, sex trade workers and exotic dancers, as well as numerous non-profit organizations.

Clients include VanCity, Whistler-Blackcomb, Vancouver Port Authority, Wasserman and Partners, Gap Inc., Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services (Battalion Chief and company officer media training), numerous other emergency services providers, the City of Whitehorse, Yukon Territorial Government, Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Department of Justice, TransLink, ICBC, Providence Health Care, Powerex, Moulding and Millwork, Ballard Power Systems, BC Gas, the Justice Institute, CMHC, Sport BC, BC School Trustees Association, and the RCMP.

Piros has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Carleton University. She has worked as a reporter and on-air announcer in radio, as a reporter, producer and anchor in television news. She has also appeared in current affairs programming (covering everything from Nisga’a Treaty, to WCB regulations to family dynamics), comedy specials, numerous television programs such as The X-Files, Outer Limits, and Dr. Who, to name a few, and in a variety of feature films and made-for-TV movies.

Beyond training, she produces videos for web-based streaming as well as big screen playout, especially in the areas of recruitment, retention and employee engagement, along with business development.

In addition, Joanna serves on the Board of Directors for the prestigious Jack Webster Journalism Awards.
