I am both a teacher and a librarian. I worked as a librarian in a public library system before moving into the classroom as a French Immersion teacher in the primary division. I am currently teaching grade 2 at Lord Nelson.
The Teacher-Librarian is a key resource in every school. This individual provides a warm and welcoming environment that invites students, staff and visitors to access all the resources the learning commons has to offer. The Teacher-Librarian is there to guide the learner in finding print or electronic resources. These resources may be supporting curriculum learning across a wide variety of subjects, to expand a person's knowledge on a topic of interest or simply for the pleasure of reading. The Teacher-Librarian is available for collaborative unit planning and co-teaching.
The Learning Commons is a hub of activity, providing a space for a multitude of activities, including read alouds and book exchanges, research time for classes or small groups using print or electronic resources, a greenscreen for creating videos, and a makerspace and a Lego wall.
The Learning Commons is a vibrant and vital component of every student's learning experience and I am passionate about creating those experiences with every learner.
