Joanna Marrufo

Student, Teacher, and Public Speaker in Baldwin Park, California

I am a first generation Latina scientist interested in marine biology and conservation. I love to collaborate in research teams to execute innovative studies on coral reef ecology projects in order to understand how humans are influencing the ocean. I am particularly interested in empowering youth, especially underrepresented students to pursue STEM careers. My passion for world travel and immersing myself in a new cultures motivates me to be among the leading conservation researchers and activists. My ultimate goal is to attain my PhD in Marine Sciences and develop a non-profit that combines conservation management, marine biology, student education, and a problem solving curriculum to develop sustainable solutions for a better tomorrow for future generations.
