Joanna Thyer
Writer in Sydney, Australia
Hi, I’m a published author, ‘lay’ chaplain/minister, speaker, educator and coordinator of university and community programs. I’ve written about religion, spirituality, personal development, grief and loss and have a particular interest in creative non-fiction. Over the years I’ve been interviewed several times on ABC Radio National, 2GB and have written many articles. My most recent book is 'Listening to the Wisdom of the Desert' (Garratt Publishing, 2017). Previously my major work was ‘12 Steps to Spiritual Freedom – Understanding the Christian Roots of Twelve Step programs’ (Loyola Press, 2014), a personal journey intertwined with a reflection on Christian mysticism and the Twelve Steps - a more expansive and personal work than the original edition, 'Steps To Life', (ABC Books, 2004). I love the emotional and universal impact of films that speak to people on different levels. I have written a screenplay, currently at sixth draft stage for which I’m pursuing further development and have several other writing projects in the pipeline. I’m always interested in the link between creativity, spirituality and psychological health, and engaging with the complex world we live in.
