Joanne Ho
Portland, OR
Joanne currently serves Portland State University's Housing and Residence Life department as a Resident Director of Ondine Hall, home of University Success and the first-year experience communities. Though she loves everything about her job, her favorite part would have to be student development, educational programming, and diversity initiatives. She is looking forward to applying and enrolling in graduate school within the next year or so. Before Portland State University, she had served the University of Washington as a resident advisor for two years, in addition to having worked as a peer instructor for two years within the First Year Program's office. She has a diverse range of experiences both in higher education, and beyond, with over three years' of additional work experience.
In graduate school, she hopes to pursue research about first generation students' experience in higher education, masculinity, sexual assault prevention and crisis management strategies, and culturally sensitive counseling techniques. Additionally, she would love to further explore the rich potentials of technology use in higher education as well as living and learning communities in residence life. Though she has not had the experience personally, she is excited for her first intergroup dialogue someday!
In her free time, Joanne loves reading science fiction and fantasy, creative writing, eating, reading, and drinking coffee. She actually does all of the above, simoultaneously, quite often. If you're ever in Portland, she'd love to buy you a doughnut!
