Joanne Jonk Kwok

I am Jonk, a nickname that has followed me for almost 10 years of my life, one that rolls easily off the tongue of every person who learns of it - be it a new friend I meet in school or my senior pastor in church. What started off as an innocent attempt to stand out from the rest of the Joannes in school has evolved into a brand name for my person, encapsulating not just my kaleidoscope of a character but more importantly my style when it comes to writing, designing or anything creative actually. People would describe me as small but powerful because I have a strong voice in both volume and opinion. I enjoy verbal duals and am fluent in wittiness and, when necessary, sarcasm. Coupled with a deep love for creativity in everything and fortunately competent in design, I constantly find myself busy with marketing and PR requests for various projects, several of which are not even my own. During the lull periods of my illustrious career as myself, I can be found making clever comments on Facebook and contributing to my 14,054 tweet count on Twitter. But above the distractions social media presents to the inquisitive mind of a creative, I believe in excellence in whatever work I take on as a student, a team member or just as a friend. I see every task I am called upon to do as an opportunity to develop my skills and strengthen my character, no matter how tedious or menial it may be. I look down on people who are afraid to work hard or label another person's passion in life as 'useless' or 'misguided'. And instead of cultivating in me a love for money-making and fighting one's way up the corporate ladder, my SMU education has inspired and enabled me to pursue my dream career in marketing with a confidence that goes beyond fantastic credentials. It is an unshakeable self-belief that is founded on my mother's love, my friends' unwavering support, and God's perfect plan for me.
