João Descalço
Cinematographer in Portugal
As a child of 80's I grew up amazed by film and animation. One of the first films I watched was "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and it is still a favorite to this day.
At 16 I got my first video camera and began making up stories with my friends and developing editing skills. I also loved to make skateboard videos.
In 2008 I finished my degree in Sound and Image and then went on to work in Audio for a few years: doing both TV and film production, which gave me a great background. Oh, and voice over for cartoon shows!
Then, in 2013, I was awarded an entrepreneurship grant, which gave me the boost to start my own business in filmmaking.
As of now, I have created a body of work that I am truly proud of: from corporate videos, to fashion films, commercials, music videos and short films. My work has been featured in major Portuguese TV networks and in 2014, the short film "Carta aos meus Avós" became viral in Portugal.
Most of all, I'm always trying to develop my skills so I can create something that will impress and amaze that kid from the 80's.
