Jason Oberman

Jason Oberman, born in Los Angeles in 1997, began playing guitar when he was five. By the 6th grade, he became obsessed with jazz. A recent graduate of Harvard-Westlake High School, Jason was a member of the top jazz combo and received the Jerry Margolis Jazz Award his senior year. Along with this award, he also received a Semi-Finalist Award in The Music Center’s Spotlight Jazz Instrumental Competition. Besides playing extensively in the Harvard-Westlake Jazz Band at school events, fundraisers, cocktail parties, and even at clubs and conservatories in Italy, he also participated in LA Jazz Society’s Bill Green Mentorship Program and various summer jazz programs across the U.S. Starting in his freshman year, Jason began composing jazz pieces, and continued to write and perform his compositions throughout high school. Currently he is preparing to attend Eastman School of Music in the fall of 2015 where he will be pursuing a degree in jazz guitar along with a degree in Audio Engineering at the University of Rochester.
