Job Omweno is a Fisheries Officer in Kisii County, Kenya, and a Fellow at the African Fish Welfare Fellowship (AFIWEL). He holds an MSc in Fisheries, sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Scholarship, and a BSc in Applied Aquatic Science from Egerton University, with a strong focus on sustainable aquaculture, animal welfare, and data-driven innovation in aquatic food systems. He has also completed specialized training in Food Safety and Risk Assessment through the Capacity Building for One Health in Eastern and Southern Africa (COHESA) Fellowship, enhancing his capacity to promote safe, ethical, and climate-resilient aquaculture practices.
In 2025, Job served in a high level panel of experts as a moderator at the African Fish and Aquatic animal Welfare (AQUAWEL) Conference, a global platform advancing science, policy, and practice in aquatic animal welfare. His work bridges research and implementation, combining community engagement, smart technology, and evidence-based policy to support fish welfare and sustainable blue food systems.
