Wendell Berry's poem, The Peace of Wild Things, best sums up the place I am at in my life.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

I rode my bicycle 14,000 miles across our great country; not once, but twice...at 23 and again at 63. I walked3,008 across these United States on stilts; landing me in the Guiness Book of World Records. That is just a sampling of my adventures.

I am a storyteller at heart and my experiences fuel my stories and hopefully add more to your own.

After a busy life, I came back home to Eastern Kentucky to settle down on the family farm. I built my home out of salvaged barn and General Store lumber. Life sometimes goes in directions we did not plan and so I opened my home and the restored 200 year old tobacco barn to the public as Bowen Farms Bed & Breakfast.

I have also created a new adventure for others to partake; The Rugged Red. It is a trail half marathon through the gorgeous Red River Gorge of Kentucky. Bowen Farm Bed & Breakfast is hosting the race. It is September 6, 2014 and will hopefully be an annual event.

Need a getaway from the city? Come to Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge! Renew your relationship with nature! Relax, Rejuvenate, Refresh! We are on Facebook at Bowen Farm Bed and Breakfast and our website is www.bowenfarm.com.
