I believe design makes the world clearer.
I'm Joe Chen, a UI/UX designer with over 10 years of experience specializing in Web, App, and system-level product design. Across my career — spanning visual design, branding, interaction design, and full product experience — one thing has remained constant: design isn't just about looking good. It's about being genuinely usable and creating experiences that users can truly feel.
My current focus is on large-scale product and systems design, including Web and Mobile App, Smart Home, Router onboarding flows, Design Systems, and high-fidelity prototyping. My background allows me to quickly untangle complex requirements and constraints, build clear structures, and translate abstract needs into well-defined, implementation-ready design solutions.
In terms of process, I always start from problem definition and user context — not from visuals. I work through flows, wireframes, and prototypes to validate assumptions step by step, before moving into high-fidelity visuals and interaction details. I believe great design is a balance of logic, experience, and aesthetics — not a showcase of any single skill.
I'm deeply proficient in Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and I have a working understanding of HTML and CSS that enables smooth, low-friction collaboration with engineering teams. Throughout projects, I regularly lead design proposals, cross-functional communication, and design decision advocacy — clearly articulating the value of design to PMs, engineers, and stakeholders.
Beyond hands-on design work, I'm passionate about organizing and sharing design thinking — whether it's UX case studies, process documentation, real observations on designer career paths, or how AI tools can meaningfully support the design workflow. I believe that being able to clearly articulate your thinking is itself a design skill.
AI Tools & Internal Training
I actively integrate AI tools into the design process — using Google Stitch and DALL-E to accelerate concept ideation, ChatGPT and Claude to support proposals and copywriting, and Claude Code to strengthen front-end collaboration. I've also led internal AI tool training programs, helping teams build AI-assisted design workflows that reduced overall delivery cycles by approximately 30%.
Outside of work, I enjoy coffee, photography, anime, exploring visual styles, and experimenting with new tools and technologies. For me, design isn't a job title — it's a way of continuously observing the world, deconstructing problems, and reassembling answers.
