Joe Ganim

Connecticut

Joe Ganim has extensive professional accomplishments in the legal and public sector, thanks in part to his world-class education. In 1981 he obtained his B.A. in Government Studies from the University of Connecticut. Two years later, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Quinnipiac University School of Law. Joe Ganim also attended courses at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Institute of Politics in November of 1991 after being elected mayor.

Through his expert negotiation skills, he had the opportunity to oversee more than $1 billion in capital expenditures. Over an 11-year period as CEO of Connecticut’s largest municipal corporation, he led the city out of municipal bankruptcy protection, achieving 10 consecutive balanced budgets and a surplus of $58 million. These accomplishments led to Joe Ganim being recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of America’s most innovative and dynamic mayors in its list of the country’s Top 25 Mayors.
