Joel Joseph
Friar
I am a Dominican Friar—born in the desert winds of Hail, Saudi Arabia, and raised at the ocean’s edge in Cape Comorin, India, where the land bows to three seas and the sun completes its arc with a kind of ancient reverence.
My life is a quiet pilgrimage through art, silence, and inquiry. I move between the rhythm of martial arts and the stillness of a monastic cell, between the music of piano and tabla, and the subtle lines of sketching and writing. Gardening grounds me; astronomy lifts my gaze to the questions that cannot be answered.
Each pursuit is a meditation, a fragment of a larger inquiry into the nature of beauty, impermanence, and the self. Whether gazing at stars or scribbling in notebooks, I find myself circling the same questions: What is truth? What is presence? Where does the artist end, and the universe begin?
