Take my class

Born in Jakarta, Joella began her musical studies at the age of six. She attended the Yayasan Musik Jakarta, studying with Juli Adin and Prajna Indrawati, alongside masterclasses with the renowned Dr. Kuei Pin Yeo, Charlotte Panggabean, and Latifah Kodijat Marzoeki.

In 2013 she entered University of Birmingham (UK) where she worked with composers including Michael Zev Gordon and Daria Kwiatkowska, pianist Cinzia Scafetta and David Quiqley, conductor Daniele Rosina, and harpsichordist Robin Bigwood and Christine Whiffen, amongst other tutors.

During her time at the university, she was particularly keen on piano performance, composition, and early music. Awarded with the Birmingham Foundation Academy Excellence Scholarship, she graduated as Bachelor of Music (Hons.) in July 2017.

As a performer, she has appeared in various concerts as both soloist and accompanist - performing for piano, harpsichord, and voice. Some of her past performances in the UK including Mahler’s 8th Symphony at Birmingham Symphony Hall (chorus) with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra in celebration of their 75th season, Orlando Furioso early music project with Musica Secreta, and solo piano recitals incorporating repertoires such as Bach Italian Concerto BMV 971, Beethoven The Tempest sonata, and Debussy Estampes.

Aside from performing, Joella is passionate about musical education and Indonesian culture-related music projects. She was co-manager of the University of Birmingham Gamelan Ensemble (under the direction of Dr. Andy Channing), principal conductor/arranger of Sora Campernik Nusantara Angklung Ensemble, and Managing Director of Gala Cultural Night 2016 musical theatre production (debuted at the Elgar Concert Hall).

She currently resides in Jakarta and has pursued an active music teaching career (piano) after her return from the UK, alongside other music projects and concerts.

In her leisure time, she loves photography, reading, travelling, watching movies and documentaries – she is a fan of avocado, as well as bubble milk tea.
